Together, husband and wife are brought together to reflect the image of God, Genesis 1:27, Ephesians 5:31-32. Marriage is a journey toward oneness.  As our oneness grows, our reflection of the love, unity, and fellowship of God grows.  Our goal at Lawndale is to help Married Couples bring glory to God.

God graciously provides instructions/principles for how we can make the journey meaningfully together.  God’s intention is that men love their wives as themselves and that wives respect their husbands, Ephesians 5:33.  As our Creator, He loves us and wants what is best for us.  We are committed to helping you discover God’s best as a Married Adult through . .

Life Journey Groups

At Lawndale, Life Journey Groups (LJGs) are an important part of the married adult ministry.  We believe we are on a journey together to bring glory to God.  We do this in our LJGs by
1) studying His word together to learn more about Him (discipleship), 2) walking with each other in love and compassion (fellowship), and 3) reaching out to those who do not have a church family (evangelism).

Opportunities for Married Adults to be involved in a LJG are on Sunday mornings:

Marriage Mentoring Class

Would you like to have a couple mentor you? We would like to pair you up with one of our trained, more-seasoned couples to share the journey together. Contact Rodney at 336-288-3824 or rnavey@lawndalebaptist.org if you are interested.

Would you consider being a couple who mentors other couples? You would be on a team of couples who make a powerful impact on the marriages around them. We are looking for couples who will commit to a 13 week study to become Marriage Mentors. Using The Complete Guide to Marriage Mentoring by Les & Leslie Parrot, these couples are trained to help other less seasoned couples on the journey to oneness.

Marriage Mentoring is offered each Spring as a LifePlus Class (Sundays at 5 p.m.).
You will gain essential insights and skills that will allow you to
• Build rapport and walk in another couple’s shoes
• Work as a team and agree on outcomes
• Ask meaningful questions and listen attentively
• Field questions and tell your stories
• Pray together and stay sharp
• Be yourselves and go with the flow

Marriage Seminars at Lawndale

Facilitators: Rodney and Donna Navey

The Marriage Seminars at Lawndale will give couples a more biblical understanding of marriage. Our goal is to bring glory to God by encouraging and equipping married adults to make the journey in oneness.

Call (336) 288-3824 or email to register(rnavey@lawndalebaptist.org). If preschool care will be needed, please indicate the name and age of child. For more information, see Rodney Navey, Assoc Pastor of Married Adults.

Preparation for the Journey (Premarriage Class)
7-week class that meets on Wednesday nights from 7:30pm-8:30pm to prepare couples who are planning on or thinking about getting married. Offered in the Spring and Fall

Marriage 101: Principles for the Journey
All couples can improve their basic marriage skills. This seminar is designed to cover principles such as God’s design, communication, partnership, personality, and much more.

Marriage 201: Purpose for the Journey
Our purpose is to reflect the image of God as husband and wife. By fulfilling your God-given role, you have the opportunity to bring Him glory. What is the husband’s role? What is the wife’s role? Marriage 201 is designed to help you understand and fulfill your role. Only then can you grow in oneness and display the glory of God in your relationship.

Marriage 301: Partnership for the Journey
Are two better than one? Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 has the answer to that question as you will see in this seminar. Since we can’t live without each other (at least all couples who want to get married say this), how can we live with each other? Healthy couples have the same vision for where their marriage is heading, and they have the same goals for what they want to accomplish. You will learn how to play on the same team rather than on opposite sides.

Marriage 401: Perseverance for the Journey
Marriages go through different seasons. Some seasons are related to your age and the growth of your children. Some are related to natural changes in individuals and relationships. Understanding these seasons and how to persevere through them is extremely important. Come and learn how to stay connected and committed to God and each other.

Marriage 501: Problems for the Journey
Life is not problem free. What do you do when sickness hits (whether mental or physical)? How are you going to handle a mate’s addiction? What do you do when children are not walking with God? Is divorce ever an option? All couples can benefit by thinking about some of the problems that can develop and how you will deal with them.

Before the Journey Begins
4-week class that meets on Wednesday nights from 7:30pm- 8:30pm for couples who are thinking about, planning on, or expecting children. We provide an overview of parenting from pregnancy to young adulthood.

Parenting 101: The Journey With Preschoolers
Although the key is teaching “authority,” each of these topics will be addressed for parents who have kids ages birth-4:
1) Attention (How to Make Family a Priority)
2) Affection (How to Love your Child)
3) Authority (How to Teach Respect, Obedience)
4) Adoration (How to Lead Your Child to Love God)

Parenting 201: The Journey With Children
Parents with Children Ages 5-10 are encouraged to participate in this class. Topics such as discipline, discipleship, personality, birth order, and preparing for adolescence will be covered. For this age group, the major emphasis is character development

Parenting 301: The Journey With Adolescents
What convictions do you and your child have about peer pressure, dating, attitude, etc.? We’ll discuss the top 10 issues children Ages 11-15 face and basic standards to put in place as you navigate through these years.

Parenting 401: The Journey With Young Adults
Still another shift takes place in parenting when children reach the 16 to 22 year age range. How can we prepare our kids for such important decisions such as vocation, marriage, and lifestyle? What pitfalls do they need to avoid? And how can we adjust our parenting style to bless the God-given drive toward independence?

Parenting 501: The Journey With Step-Children
Discipline is a huge topic that is not easy to practice in step families. It will be necessary, so how do you approach it? Other issues that are important to consider are anger, relationships, and respect. This seminar will speak to some of the unique problems of step families as well as common problems that all families face.
