People are
always asking, “How do I gain the favor of God?” This is a great
question to ask, because God is the supreme Creator of the Universe
(Revelation 4:11), and it is wise to know how to have
the favor of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
The tragedy with many is that they believe that they can impress God
by being a good person. You may have heard it said, “Well, I’m a
good person and God will let me into heaven.” However, God’s Word,
The Bible, says that none of us are good enough to
meet God’s expectation of righteousness
(Romans 3:10-12). Why is this so? Because we have all
sinned and fallen short of the glory of God
(Romans 3:23).
God does not leave us without hope of a personal relationship with
Him. That is why He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, into the world. Over
2000 years ago, Jesus Christ came to this earth, lived a sinless
life
(Hebrews 4:15), and ultimately died on a cross and rose
from the dead three days later to pay the penalty for our sins (Colossians
1:19-20;
I Peter 1:3). This is God’s greatest gift to us!
Although God alone has paid the penalty for our sin, still we have a
responsibility to receive this precious gift of grace by faith. The
benefits of God’s grace will only be actualized if a person receives
God’s grace gift through Christ. Want to know how to receive this
gift?
-
Understand that you have
sinned and are in need of God’s forgiveness
(Romans 3:23)
-
Repent of (i.e. turn away
from) your sins, asking God to forgive you
(Acts 2:38)
-
Accept that Jesus Christ’s
death and resurrection is the only adequate remedy for paying
your sin debt to God
(1 Timothy 2:5)
-
Submit to Jesus Christ as
your personal Lord and Savior
(Romans 10:9-10)
Here is a prayer that you may want to pray to God, if you are
genuinely sincere in seeking God’s forgiveness and want to have an
intimate relationship with Him:
Dear Lord, I thank you for loving me, even though I am a sinner and
have fallen short of your expectations. I know that there is no way
that I can merit my favor before you. I accept your gift of
forgiveness through the death and resurrection of your son, Jesus
Christ. I ask that you forgive me of my sins. I ask that you become
my personal Lord and Savior, Amen.
If you prayed this prayer, please
