Above the Rim Basketball
 

Brochures have been mailed for rising 7th-12th grade boys and girls. If you did not receive one, you may pick one up in the church office or outside Jimmy’s office. Evaluations will be Monday, August 25 from 6-8 p.m. For more information, please call Patty Ghering or Jimmy Jackson at 288-3824. Also, if you are interested in coaching this season, please contact Jimmy.

Fall Spectacular
 

On Friday, October 31, we will be having our annual Fall Spectacular! As always, we will need lots of volunteers to help with the games, concessions, and registration area. This has always been a great evening with thousands of visitors to our church. This is a wonderful “front door” evangelism opportunity for each of us. Call Jimmy, 288-3824, ext. 315, if you are interested in helping.

 


 


 

Fusion
 

Fusion meets Wednesday nights from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the CLC. Fusion is a combination of praise & worship, drama/skits, teaching and fun games! It is here that students have an opportunity to connect with other students and God in a non-threatening, inviting atmosphere. Invite your friends!

Cleveland Mission Trip


A Big Thank-You to all those who donated towards the Cleveland Mission Trip! Your prayers and support are greatly appreciated!
For those going to Cleveland, please be at the church at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, August 8. Eat breakfast before you come or bring food with you. If you have not paid, please turn in your final payment on Friday. Remember to bring money for lunch on the way there and back plus meals at Cedar Point.

LJG Events



The 6th, 7th & 8th Grade girls will be having a back to school pool party on Friday, August 15, from 6:30-9:00 at the club house of the Farm at Summerfield subdivision. There will be pizza, desserts and drinks. Please bring $5 to cover the cost of food. Directions will be given out in your LJG.

UNC Football Game



There are 56 tickets available for the UNC football game on August 30. The cost is $30. The bus will depart at 4 p.m. Bring money for food at the stadium. Sign up sheets will go around at Fusion and in your LJG.

“Lord, Change My Attitude,” by James MacDonald, is the title of this 11- week series for all age Single Adults. Books are available in the classroom for $10.

Fall Single Adult Mini-Retreat

At Caraway Conference Center, Asheboro
Fri. Sept. 5-Sat. Sept. 6
 

This mini-retreat is a hit with our single adults. Join us for an overnight, spiritually-enriching getaway in the Uwharrie Mountains at Caraway Conference Center in Asheboro, NC. The retreat will feature a high ropes course and canoeing for those interested. The cost is $60 and space is limited. Call Judy Faust at 288-3824, for reservations.

Our new church year begins September 7. There are some exciting places of service in Preschool and Children’s Ministries in Sunday morning Life Journey classes, Wednesday evening Mission Friends (preschoolers), and Royal Ambassadors (boys, grades 1-5). Important Fall Dates


August 13—”Preparing First Graders for Family Worship,” Room 263, 6:15-7:15 p.m. Beginning with First Grade, our children begin to attend worship with their parents. This workshop will give parents the tools to help their new first graders grow and learn in family worship. One parent said, “Worshipping with children doesn’t have to be a holy war; it can be a precious privilege.”

September 3—Mission Friends, RA’s and GA’s resume

September 7—Promotion Sunday for Life Journey Groups. Preschoolers & elementary children will promote to a new class. We are currently working on new records. Any special requests should be shared absolutely no later than August 10. Preschoolers will receive written notice of their new class. Elementary children promote to their new classrooms as follows:
    Grade 1, Room 135
    Grade 2, Room 137
    Grade 3, Room 145
    Grade 4, Room 163
    Grade 5, Room 162

Senior Adult Ministry


IT’S NOT TOO LATE to sign up for our Peach-Pickin’ trip next Thursday, August 14. We already have 60 signed up to go so it’s going to be a good time. We will leave the church at 9 a.m. and make a rest stop in Mt. Airy, then go on to Cana, VA, just across the state line on Hwy. 52, to the packing house where we usually get apples. We will have lunch in Mt. Airy and do a little shopping before returning to Greensboro around 4 p.m. Call the church office, 288-3824 or sign up this Sunday in your Life Journey Group. Reservations will be taken until 4 p.m. next Monday, August 11.

ATTENTION, VOICES OF EXPERIENCE!
Many of you have been asking, “When do we resume rehearsals?” Well, I’m inviting you to our first rehearsal for the new year on Wednesday, August 20, at 10 a.m. We will have a time of fellowship and registration and dismiss at 11:30 a.m. We have exciting plans for the new year, so please, all former members and all who would like to become a part of this group, don’t miss this first rehearsal where new music will be given out and a schedule of activities will be posted. Please, all former members, bring every piece of music that you have with you to be turned in so that we can start this new year with all new music.

A study of Revelation is underway in WWW every Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. in the Chapel. WWW is an ongoing women’s Bible Study and is facilitated by Phyllis Postma.

MOPS (Mothers Of Pre-Schoolers) begins meeting
on Tuesday, September 16, at 9 a.m. in the CLC, and will continue on the third Tuesdays of the month through May. There are limited spots available. To register, call Kyra Houser at 288-8488, or j.houser@earthlink.net, and let her know ASAP.

Married Adult Ministry

 

Operation Outreach: The first Sunday of each month, at 4 pm, meet in Room 216. Make sure your LJG is represented during this time. It’s a great opportunity to show people we care in a nonthreatening but tangible way.

New Life Journey Group Year: (2008-09) We officially start a new year on September 7 in our LJGs. All Married Adult Coordinators and spouses are invited to a kick-off dinner on September 4 at 6 pm in the Fellowship Hall. Please RSVP at 288-3824 or rnavey@lawndalebaptist.org.

Life Journey Group Leadership Training: Make plans to attend this LifePlus class beginning September 14 from 5-6 p.m.
 


Upcoming Marriage Seminars

Parenting 301: The Journey with an Adolescent, ages 11-15 is Sept. 26, 6:30-9:30 p.m. We will address what your child will face as they move into the teenage years.
